The Spanish Tragedy

The Spanish Tragedy

directed by Mary Parker

The Spanish Tragedy was written a few years before Hamlet and shares some common elements. A Ghost teams up with the spirit of Revenge to seek justice for his death in a battle between Spain and Portugal. The ghost's mourning girlfriend seeks the aid of a wronged father for the crimes committed by her brother and the captured prince of Portugal. It all ends with a gory play-within-a-play, and only a few actors left standing. This funny, gory, tragic play will be performed in various locations throughout Tufts Park in Somerville, with the audience following the actors. The show has been awarded a grant by the Somerville Arts Council.

Location

Nathan Tufts Park in Somerville. The park is near Powderhouse Circle, between Broadway and College Ave. The show will start in the back of the park, off College Ave, and will move counterclockwise through the park. There will be ushers to direct the audience.

Please note that there are no restrooms available in the park. The show runs approximately 90 minutes. You may bring chairs, but you will be moving frequently.
