Antigone & Medea

A Greek Tragedy Double Feature

directed by Mike Haddad

Antigone

written by Sophocles

translated by E. F. Watling

A young girl in ancient Thebes defies the will of the king by burying her brother, who was deemed a traitor to the city. The king demands her death, while her sister, fiancé, and some of the citizens of Thebes beg the king to show mercy.

Medea

written by Euripedes

translated by Moses Hadas & John McLean

Medea, wife of the hero Jason, once betrayed her own family to help him win the Golden Fleece. In exile from her homeland, Medea has borne Jason two sons and sacrificed much for her husband. Now, after learning that her husband will marry the princess of Corinth, Medea has been banished from the kingdom—on pain of death—by the king himself. She has been given one day to pack up and leave, but instead, she enacts the ultimate revenge on those who have wronged her.
