Marian, Or The True Tale of Robin Hood

by Adam Szymkowicz

directed by Paulina Martz

presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Marian, Or the True Tale of Robin Hood is a joyful, diverse, heartfelt and hilarious play. It explores themes of gender-expression, and the experiences of those of marginalized genders, and how to find out who you are and who you love; all wonderfully juxtaposed within the familiar story of Robin Hood. This slapstick Monty-Python-esque farce is rife with sword fights, thumb-wrestling matches, characters in disguise, and endless surprises.

Robin Hood is (and has always been) Maid Marian in disguise, and leads a motley group of Merry Men (few of whom are actually men) against the greedy Prince John. As the poor get poorer and the rich get richer, who will stand for the vulnerable if not Robin? What is the cost of revealing your true self in a time of trouble?

Content note: This show contains a few moments of adult language and humor, as well as humorous depictions of fighting and violence.
