The Bakery

a staged reading of an original screenplay about love, family, and cupcakes

by Lisë Stern

What do you do when the love of your life takes a hike?

Joe Morgan works nonstop in his family bakery, waiting for his wife to return...even though said wife went and married the car dealer down the street and rarely sees their three teenage girls. Joe's daughters each look for their own answers to forsaken love. Life in the bakery heats up when Zara Boyajian comes to town to visit her college-student son. Zara pinch-hits as a cake decorator, but she is not all that she appears to be. Zara compels Joe to move out of the past and into the present, and Joe helps Zara face her own buried truths.
