Do you enjoy auditioning, but don’t have time to commit to a production? Are you coming off a production and need a theater community fix? Are you just bored and want something to do on a Sunday afternoon? Well, you’re in luck!

Theatre@First is piloting a new program called Unhinged Auditions. You’ll sign up for a time slot, just like an ordinary audition. Then show up at the appointed time and read various sides with 7 other people, just like an ordinary audition. Pour your heart into a handful of characters over the course of the hour. Try out different accents or unique takes on a part, be bold, be silly, take risks, be UNHINGED! You don’t have to worry about if you’re going to get cast or not, because this is NOT an ordinary audition. This audition will not be connected to any actual performance. No one is being cast, nobody will get any parts. Maybe you’ll come early or hang back to watch one of the other time groups, maybe not, but once your audition is over, that’s it. You’re done.

This is not a workshop, no pointers or feedback will be offered. There will be a couple people there assigned to “run the show.” They will do the work of selecting sides and assigning roles, and factoring in your requests. This is not an improv performance. There won’t be an audience (no public, just participants). We will accept walk in auditioners. You won’t know what play you’ll be auditioning for until you arrive. Because really, that’s not the point. Just come get your theater geek on for an hour and then fade to black, jack.

Does this sound a little bit bizarre? Maybe it’s just bizarre enough to work! Then use this link to sign up for your very own inaugural Unhinged Audition on Sunday, April 28th at 3, 4, or 5pm.

A small selection of snacks and drinks will be provided (Just like an ordinary audition!).

We invite all members of our awesomely uncommon theater community to weigh in on this crazy little idea, even if you aren’t able to join us at our first try on 4/28. Follow the little linky to a brief survey.
