The Aria of Julie d'Aubigny,

the cross-dressing, sword-fighting, opera singer, wherein she seduces men and women alike, wins numerous duels, must be twice pardoned by the King, and eventually finds true love.

by Monica Cross

directed by Peter Duerst

Content note: This play contains violence, injury, illness, death, sexual harassment, alcohol, period-appropriate drug use, discussion of self harm, discussion of suicidal thoughts, and discussions of grooming. Two short opera arias are sung at loud volume.

The legendary Julie d’Aubigny leads a sensational life: loving deeply, fighting recklessly, and always followed by a chorus of gossips embellishing her actions. How much of the real Julie lives on in the stories we know of her today? This play is a beautiful queer story filled with action, romance, and comedy.

This production of The Aria of Julie d’Aubigny will be its world premiere.
