The Presentation

A Workshop on Directing Basics

This workshop will walk directors and prospective directors through the show process from pre-production to closing night. Participants will learn about the pre-production process, auditions and casting, rehearsals, work days, and tech week. Mike will discuss strategies and give advice for both short plays and mainstage productions. While this workshop is designed primarily for those with limited or no directing experience, directors of all experience levels are welcome to attend.

About the Instructor: For more than 20 years, Mike Haddad has been acting and directing onstage at high schools, colleges, and several community theatre groups. His directing credits include four mainstage productions with Theatre@First: The Mousetrap (2015), Mourning Becomes Electra (2017), The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged] (2019), and Antigone & Medea: A Greek Tragedy Double Feature (2020). Mike has also directed more than 40 ten-minute plays for a variety of short-play festivals throughout Massachusetts, as well as the 2004 Samuel French Festival in New York City. As a director, Mike has run the gamut from comedy to tragedy, from classical to contemporary. He has learned as much from his own experiences as he has from the many wonderful and talented directors he's worked with in the past.
